A trackable QR code doesn't encode your link directly. It encodes a short capyqr.com redirect, so each scan is counted before the visitor lands on your page — and you can change where it points without reprinting. Capy QR's free plan includes 3 dynamic QR codes with 7 days of scan analytics: scans per day, countries, cities, and phone operating systems. Visitor IP addresses are stored only as one-way hashes. The codes don't expire, and you design them like any other Capy QR: colors, dot style, logo, and frame.

How QR code tracking works

A dynamic QR code holds a short redirect link (capyqr.com/r/…) instead of your final URL. When someone scans it, the redirect records the scan — date, approximate location from the network, and the phone's operating system — and immediately forwards them to your page. Because the printed code only contains the redirect, you can change the destination in your dashboard at any time and every printed copy follows.

Static vs dynamic QR codes

A static QR code encodes your link directly: it works forever with no account, but it can't be edited or tracked. A dynamic QR code adds the redirect layer, which is what makes tracking and editing possible. Use static for things that never change, like a Wi-Fi password; use dynamic for anything printed that you'll want to measure or update — flyers, packaging, menus, posters, business cards.

What you can track for free

On the free plan you get 3 dynamic QR codes and a rolling 7-day window of analytics: total scans, scans per day, top countries and cities, and operating systems (iOS, Android, and others). Scans are unlimited — there's no cap that switches your code off. Starter and Pro plans raise the number of dynamic codes, extend analytics to 30 or 365 days, and add custom short domains.

Free trackable QR codes vs typical paid tools

Many QR generators only offer tracking on a paid plan or during a short trial, and some switch dynamic codes off when the trial ends. Capy QR's free tracking isn't a trial: the 3 free dynamic codes keep working and keep counting scans for as long as your account exists. If you outgrow them, paid plans add more codes and longer history — your existing codes don't change.

Do trackable QR codes expire?

Not on Capy QR. Free dynamic codes have no time limit and no inactivity timer. The only thing that pauses them is downgrading from a paid plan while you hold more dynamic codes than the free plan allows — delete down to 3 and they work again.

How it works

  1. 1

Paste your link and tick “Make this a dynamic QR”

Enter the URL you want people to reach, then switch on dynamic mode. You'll be asked to create a free account — that's where your scan stats live.

  2. 2

    Design it

Pick colors or a gradient, a dot style, and optionally your logo and a frame. Tracking doesn't change how the code looks.

  3. 3

Download, print, and watch the scans

Export PNG, SVG, JPEG, or PDF, then open your dashboard to see scans by day, country, city, and device OS. Change the link whenever you need to.

Frequently asked questions

Is QR code tracking free?

Yes. Capy QR's free plan includes 3 dynamic QR codes with scan tracking and 7 days of analytics — no credit card and no trial period. Paid plans add more codes and longer analytics history.

How do I track QR code scans?

Use a dynamic QR code. In Capy QR, paste your link, tick “Make this a dynamic QR”, create a free account, and download the code. Every scan then shows up in your dashboard by day, country, city, and operating system.

Can I change the link after printing?

Yes, with a dynamic QR code. The printed code points at a short redirect, so you can change the destination in your dashboard anytime and every printed copy follows. Static codes can't be changed.

What's the difference between a static and a dynamic QR code?

A static code encodes your link directly — permanent, no account, but not editable or trackable. A dynamic code encodes a short redirect, which makes scan tracking and editing possible.

Do dynamic QR codes expire on the free plan?

No. Free dynamic codes have no time limit or inactivity timer. They're only paused if you downgrade from a paid plan while holding more than 3 dynamic codes, until you delete down to the limit.

Is QR scan tracking privacy-friendly?

Capy QR records the date, approximate location from the network, and the phone's operating system. Visitor IP addresses are stored only as one-way hashes, never in readable form. See the privacy policy for details.
