Phone QR codes encode a tel: link. Scanning opens the user's dialer pre-loaded with your number; one more tap places the call. Useful anywhere the call is the conversion: hotel concierge cards, plumbers and electricians' van decals, taxi stands, emergency information posters.

What is a calling QR code?

A calling QR code (or call QR code) holds a phone number as a tel: link. When someone scans it with their phone camera, the phone offers to call the number — tap once and the dialer opens with your number filled in, tap again to call. It saves people from reading and retyping a number, which is where most wrong calls come from.

How to make a QR code for a phone number

Enter the number above in international format — a plus sign, the country code, then the number (for example +1 415 555 0134). Style the code and add a frame label such as “Call us” or “Scan to call” so people know what it does. Download it, then scan it with your own phone to make sure the right number comes up before you print.

Where call QR codes work best

Anywhere the phone call is the goal: service van decals and yard signs, hotel room cards and taxi stands, shop windows outside opening hours, real-estate signs, equipment that needs a support number, and event or emergency-information posters. If people are more likely to text or message, an SMS or WhatsApp QR code may convert better.

How it works

  1. 1

    Enter the number

Use international format (+country code) for the widest device compatibility. Test on a real phone before printing.

  2. 2

    Brand the design

Pick brand color, drop in your logo, add a frame label like 'Call us' or '24/7'.

  3. 3

Download in the format you need

Export as PNG, JPEG, SVG, or PDF at up to 3,200 pixels. No signup, no watermark, no limit on downloads.

Pretty by default. Powerful when you need it.

Frequently asked questions

How do I make a QR code that calls a phone number?

Enter the number in the phone field above, preferably with the country code, and download the code. Scanning it opens the caller's dialer with your number filled in.

Will the phone call automatically?

No — scanning opens the dialer pre-loaded with the number. The user still has to tap the call button. This is the OS preventing accidental calls.

Should I include the country code?

Yes. International format (+1 415 555 1234) works regardless of where the scanner is. Local format may fail when scanned by a phone roaming abroad.

Can I encode an extension?

Some phones support 'pause and dial' extensions using commas in the number (e.g. +14155551234,,1234). Test before relying on it; behavior varies by phone.

Is there a difference vs SMS QR?

Yes — SMS opens a message draft, phone opens the dialer. For voice-first businesses use phone; for opt-in flows or async support use SMS or WhatsApp.
